Many people are curious about acupuncture for children. Does it work? Can kids bear it?许多人很好奇儿童针灸。有用吗？小孩能接受吗？
First, acupuncture works for many different conditions in children. So far, in clinic, including the experiences in China and in USA, with acupuncture, sometimes combined with herbal medicine, we successfully helped kids with chronic cough, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, unspecified stomach pain, digestion disorders, anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, pediatric cerebral palsy, bell’s palsy, motor delays, language delay, weak vision, eczema, constipation, enuresis, abnormal night sweating, Musculo-skeletal related pain syndrome, etc.

Could children bear acupuncture needles? 小孩能承受针刺之痛吗？
Yes. Most children feel only minimal pain or a tingling sensation as the needles are inserted, and some feel no pain at all. Some of them may cry loudly in the beginning because of nervousness. Once the needles are in place, no pain is felt and most children begin to feel comfortable and relaxed, and many of them may fall asleep.
是的，大部分时候小孩只是在针刺入时感觉到轻微疼痛或麻刺感，随后就不会有太多痛感。有些小孩可能在开始治疗时由于紧张而大哭。但是针刺入后，由于痛感消失大部分孩子会开始感到舒适，放松，许多人甚至会在治疗中入睡。
For very young kids less than 10 years old, usually one of their family member is required to be there. In our sugar land office, we usually will assign a bigger and peaceful, beautiful family room for kids. During acupuncture, a family member could sit down there, talk to the kid, or use their smart phone to find a wonderful story or beautiful music for their child. If the kid falls asleep, the family member could enjoy reading, doing meditation by themselves in the room. Sometimes, we may let the child do some exercise with needles on. You do not need to worry about the needles because they will be put on some area not affecting movement at all. Sometimes we may do manual therapy with acupuncture together.
对于小于10岁的小小孩，通常需要一个家庭成员陪伴在侧。在糖城门诊，一般我们会给孩子安排一间较大的，安静漂亮的诊室。针刺过程中家长可以坐在旁边与孩子交谈，或者通过他们的手机让孩子听动人的故事或音乐。如果孩子入睡，家长可以享受阅读，或者在房间做做冥想放松。有时候我们会让孩子带针锻炼，请不要担心，因为此时针刺之所一定是在不会影响运动的穴位上。有时在留针时我们会给孩子做一些手法治疗。
Each session treatment usually takes between 35 and 50 minutes. As needed, we often combine acupuncture with cupping, or children manual therapy, ear seeds therapy, some specific exercise, diet education together during your visit. Mostly, the kids are happy and laughing when they leave the clinic after their treatment. Sometimes we may teach the kids some
exercises or teach the family member a few manipulations to do for their child daily at home. If you can follow the instructions, you can look forward to better results.
每次治疗通常需要35到50分钟。根据病情需要，除针刺外常常会配合使用拔罐，儿童手法治疗，耳压，特殊锻炼，饮食教育等。治疗后大部分孩子都会高高兴兴地笑着离开我们的门诊。有时我们会教孩子一些锻炼方法，或者教家长一些操作可以在家里每天给孩子做。如果您能遵循跟从医嘱，会达到更好的治疗效果。
How old should the kids be to receive acupuncture? In our experiences, Infants as young as 6 months old can undergo acupuncture therapy.
多大的孩子可以接受针灸? 在我们的经验中，六个月大的婴儿就可以。
For some conditions, such as autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, earlier diagnosis and earlier treatment are important, younger than 10 years old acupuncture more effective.
有些疾病，比如自闭症，多动症，脑瘫，早期诊断早期治疗很重要，10岁以前针刺会更有效。
How long or how many treatments will the kids need? It depends on what disease you wish to manage, and how is the kid’s specific constitution. Some conditions may just need 1 session, or 3-6 sessions treatment, such as some pain syndrome, cough… Some conditions may require a few months or even more longer like 1-2 years following up treatment, for example cerebral palsy, autism, ADHD…
孩子需要接受多少次治疗？这完全取决于什么病。有些可能一次，或者3-6次，比如一些痛症，咳嗽......有些可能需要几个月甚至一两年的跟踪治疗，比如脑瘫，多动症，自闭症......
One important thing you need to know is, somehow acupuncture could work for the child or not depending on their parents. Very often the reason the kid comes to our clinic is because their parents, or other family member, or friends had been in the clinic and recognized the benefits of
acupuncture and/or herbal medicine. So, they have confidence to bring their child or recommend their friend’s child to come. When the child starts to have acupuncture, if he/she has a little bit against to treatment in the beginning, with the experience been treated in the clinic, parents or family member can corporate closely with the doctor to calm down their child. This makes a successful treatment to the child more possible.
